More than 16 years have passed since the incident but the truth was revealed on Wednesday by a former Chelsea stadium chairman.
On April 26, 2006, after a 3-0 victory over Manchester United, José Mourinho was crowned English champion for Chelsea and, infected by the euphoria of the festivities, the Portuguese threw a champion’s medal to the supporters.
After all, Neil Barnett, Chelsea announcer for over 30 years, revealed the goal belonged to Robert Huth, who was absent from the game to force the club out of the summer market.
In 2010, four years later, the medal went for €20,000 to an anonymous buyer.
It wasn’t his. It was Robert Huth’s who didn’t show up that day to force a move https://t.co/6V1BqZjMSS
